”When I saw the time I was like: ”Oh. It is going to be a challenge’,” Phelps said. ”I just want to get in the water and race. I will get in the water tonight and have fun and that’s what I will do.”

Michael Phelps early this Saturday morning barely qualified, coming in at the eighth and final spot for tonight’s final of the 400 individual medley race. That puts him in an outside lane tonight.

“You can’t count him out,” Ryan Lochte said.

“Even though he just squeaked in eighth, he’s a racer. We’re going to do everything we can to go 1-2 tonight.”
