The officer who fatally shot Philando Castile is back at work and being praised by his police chief. St. Anthony Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez fatally shot 32-year-old Philando Castile during a traffic stop.
Castile, a beloved cafeteria worker at a Minnesota elementary school, was shot dead in July after he told Yanez he had a legally licensed weapon in the vehicle. When Castile reached for his wallet, he was shot dead by Yanez. The aftermath of the shooting was broadcast live by Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds.Mangseth also said he made sure that the officer got counseling after he shot Castile to death.
“He’s concerned for his future and for his family,” the chief said. “This has put him and his family front and center in our metro area, not to mention the nation.”
These comments by Chief Mangseth reveal that the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting is a farce. The chief would not heap praise on Yanez if there was any chance that the officer would be found guilty of any wrongdoing. That Yanez will escape disciplinary action is a foregone conclusion by everyone involved.
