Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin near-interference with Baltimore Ravens kick returner Jacoby Jones on Thanksgiving night is being reviewed by NFL officials as an, “aggressive play”. According to SportsCenter there will be a possibility of Tomlin receiving a personal fine, along with the Steelers franchise being fined , and even draft forfeiture. Check out the video inside and let us know what you think about the play!
The NFL is expected to consider six-figure fines for Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers organization and also is expected to consider taking away a draft pick from the team, a source familiar with the league’s thinking told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The league is expected to hand down its discipline early this coming week, the source said.
But according to the source, Tomlin likely will not be suspended for stepping on the field Thursday night during a kickoff return in Pittsburgh’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
After Pittsburgh scored to close to 13-7 in the third quarter, Baltimore’s Jacoby Jones broke free down the sideline on the ensuing kickoff but slowed up with Tomlin on the white stripe near the field of play — with his foot on the field at one point as Jones neared his location.
I do not agree with this harsh of a punishment for what could have truly been an accident. Mike Tomlin’s back was to the play and the referee did NOT throw a flag for this play. Therefore, what is the referee’s fine/punishment for not throwing a flag???? This incident can also be compared to Jason Kidd’s fine from the NBA. Last week Kidd did not have any more timeouts left; therefore, he “accidentally” spilled a drink on the court because he told a player to hit him so his drink would spill on court allowing a coach to draw up last minute play. The NBA did not appreciate this move and fined Kidd 50,000. I feel like the NFL should fine Tomlin the same $50,000 or less because a six-figure fine would be too much! Tomlin has been professional during his tenure as Head Coach thus far and has no prior record of such incidents so why such a unfair punishment on table?
