First we have we have Whitney, now Miles Davis who will be played by Don Cheadle, who transforms into the late musician or the much-anticipated biopic, Miles Ahead. In the photo, Cheadle hits the nail on the head with Davis’ signature hair, 70’s style holding his trumpet. Cheadle tells Entertainment Weekly the film is not necessarily a biopic, but “a gangster pic.” Get that Oscar Don!
Don tells Entertainment Weekly that:
“It’s a movie that Miles Davis would have wanted to star in.” said Cheadle. “Without throwing history away, we’re trying to shuffle it and make it more cubist. The bulk of it takes place in ’79, in a period where he actually wasn’t playing. But we traverse a lot of it his life, but it’s not a cradle to grave story.”
Cheadle has been trying to bring the film to life since 2006 and recently launched a crowdfunding campaign. To date, he has raised $308,120 of the film’s $325,000 goal. The film is being shot now in Cincinnati, Ohio. No release date has been set.
He has been working closely with Miles Davis nephew Vincent Wilburn Jr. and his son Erin Davis… According to Cheadle, Miles Davis referred to his music as “social music; the music of its time” and instead of simply crowdfunding the project with the fans, Davis’ idea of “music of its time” will frame the Miles Ahead soundtrack:
This soundtrack is also going to be peppered with people from today. Keeping in the Miles Davis theme. Who knows who might show up on the soundtrack. Jay Z. DJ Skrillex. Kendrick Lamar. Dr. Dre. Nas. The possibilities are endless.
