Several people were killed in a shooting at an historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. According to sources and limited info on social media, the shooting took place Wednesday evening at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, one of the oldest AME church in United States.
Police described the suspect as a 21-year-old white man in a sweatshirt or hoodie and jeans, according to Charleston newspaper The Post and Courier.
Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis said the shooting occurred at the Emanuel AME Church around 9 p.m. local time.
Police Chief Mullen: “This is a tragedy that no community should have to experience. It is senseless. It is unfathomable that someone would walk into a church when people are having a prayer meeting and take their lives.”
Was this a random act of hatred? Can’t help but wonder if the police officer who fatally shot Walter Scott –Michael Slager is related or associated with the gunman –who is still at large. Slager was charged with murder for shooting and killing Walter Scott earlier this year in Charleston, South Carolina.
Last night before knowing anyones name something made me think this was not a random act of hatred, but a planned attack!!! The shooting took place at the Emanuel AME Church, led by the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, a long-serving state senator. Mr. Pinckney was among those killed, police said. The victims included three males and six females, police said.
Mr. Pinckney, 41, was a married father of two daughters who began serving in the legislature in 1997, making him, at age 23, the youngest member of the House at the time. Mr. Pinckney helps WALTER SCOTT’s family in prayer and counseling after the police officer killed him…. #walterscott #michaelslager #dylannstorm RANDOM ACTS OF HATE OR PLANNED ATTACK ??????
Dylann Roof, the alleged gunman authorities say is responsible for killing nine people in a predominantly black Charleston, South Carolina, church Wednesday night, had been “planning something like that for six months,” according to his roommate.
Dalton Tyler, who said he has known Roof for seven months to one year, said he saw the white, 21-year-old suspect just last week.
“He was big into segregation and other stuff,” Tyler said. “He said he wanted to start a civil war. He said he was going to do something like that and then kill himself.”
